TN, 18 Oct 2017: Veteran actor Kamal Haasan has apologised for supporting the Modi government’s decision to demonetise all Rs. 500 and 1000 notes.
He had tweeted in support of demonetisation last November. “Salute Mr. Modi. This move has to be celebrated across political party lines. Most importantly by earnest tax payers.”
In an article in Tamil magazine Vikatan, Haasan said that he had earlier supported the Modi government’s move "in a hurry". He said he thought demonetisation will help getting rid of black money.
Kamal said that the sign of a statesman is one who can accept that he made a mistake. “If the PM accepts his mistake , then one more salaam is waiting for him from me".
The actor has recently been active politically, levying corruption charges against the K Palaniswami-led AIADMK government in Tamil Nadu and taking it on over the spread of dengue in the state.
Kamal’s apology comes at a time when speculation is growing about when he will make his political entry in Tamil Nadu.
