Malpe: Beach Food Festival a huge success!

Malpe, 09 April 2012: At one side of the beach it is the sea of water and at the other side it is the sea of people rushing for the food, those who are at the end of the queue, there is no food left for them! On the occasion of the Silver Jubilee of Udupi District Youth Brahman Parishad organized a exhibition and sale of Beach Food Festival with a verities of traditional foods items at Malpe Beach.
Usually, when a food festival is conducted there is priority given for the non-vegetarian food items. But this food festival is organized by Brahman Parishad, so naturally here it was all vegetarian food items and that too the Udupi Special recipes which are world famous were prepared on the spot and served hot! which caused competition among the people to have this delicious food.
When you say Malpe, one remembers Fish! The people here cannot have food without fish. So naturally people were unsure whether it is vegetarian food in Malpe! But the Brahman Parishad took the risk, selected Sunday the holiday and conducted the vegetarian food festival. But the people arrived for this food festival in thousands, beyond expectations.
At the sea shore under the Shamiyana the hot-hot food, cool drinks were served along with sweets and hot eatables which are all freshly being prepared and served in 4 – 5 counters. People purchasing with 10 – 20 rupees coupons in kilometer long queue waiting for their turn, proved that in the coastal areas the people like vegetarian food.
Udupi Special 25 verities of recipe of food items were in the food festival. Among them were Shavige Kurma, Capsicum, Moode Kodekene, Pundigatti, Chattambade, Jagfruit appam, Halpayi, Beaten rice tadka, Maddi and such recipes were being tasted by the people with great interest.
Since it was Sunday along with the regular beach visitors, the people from Udupi, Brahmavara, Kaup and Padubidri who arrived here specifically for tasting these foods was huge. But since the food items got consumed in the very beginning many people were disappointed.
Udupi’s Puttige Mutt Shri Sugunendra Theertha Swameeji and Shiroor Mutt’s Laxmivara Theertha Swameeji also had arrived and expressed their happiness on seeing the food festival.

Congratulation to the organizers of Malpe Beach Food Festival by Udupi District Brahman Parishad on the occasion of their Silver Jubilee. The pictures by Snehalatha was fantastic and my mouth stated watering looking at those scenes.It may have been vegetarian but food is food. I hope we see more such festivals like this. I am a NRI but from Udupi.Last year I was there at this time of the year. |
