Bengaluru, 14 May 2024: The Indian Railway Board has opened counters providing good food at low rates near general compartment coaches at over 100 railway stations across the country, including seven stations in Karnataka.
In Karnataka, subsidized food counters have been opened at Mangaluru Central and Junction railway sections under the Southern Railway, as well as KSR Bengaluru, Yeshwantpur, Mysuru, Vijayapura, and Ballari railway stations under the Southwest Railway.
This project is a joint initiative by the Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) and Indian Railways. It aims to provide healthy food for passengers traveling in unreserved bogies.
Previously, low-priced food was available in railway station restaurants under the Janatha meals service. Now, the counters are located directly on the platforms. Currently, 150 platforms in 100 railway stations offer this facility. Breakfast is priced at Rs 20, light meals at Rs 50, and 200 ml of water is provided for Rs 3. This information was conveyed by the PRO of the railway department.
