Udupi/M’Belle, 24 Mar: The ICYM and YCS Units of St. Lawrence Church, Moodubelle observed Taize Prayer on Saturday, 23 May 2019 at 7pm at the Church Hall. Rev Fr. Clement Mascarenhas welcomed Derick Mascarenhas, the Diocesan Coordinator for the Year of the Youth 2019 and all the youths and parishioners for the candle lit prayer service. He appreciated the youth for coming together and praying together and for each other in this quiet and serene atmosphere.
The prayer service was led by Derick Mascarenhas in a unique way with melodious hymns and reading from passages from the Holy Bible. An hour of prayer with devotion was attended by large number of youths of the parish and few parishioners.
Taizé prayer has been gaining popularity in the Catholic and Protestant churches. Taizé prayer is the creation of a monastic community in Taizé, France, founded in the 1940s by a Swiss man known as Brother Roger. The main purpose was to bring together all the youths.
The arrangement of ambience was guided and coordinated by Fr Lawrence Cutinha, Assistant Parish Priest and ICYM Director of Udupi Deanery. Mrs. Anita D’Souza with the youths beautifully decorated the lamps with bricks. It was indeed a very unique experience of being together and praying.
Vilton D’Souza, President of the Youth Commission, Moodubelle and president of ICYM Udupi Deanery and Deril D’Sa, President of YCS Udupi Deanery actively worked together with the youths to make this event a memorable one. The ICYM animators were present and supported the activity.
The prayer service ended with each one kneeling in front of the Crucifix and surrendering themselves in the presence of Jesus. With dozens of lamps flickering in the absence of light and in presence of Jesus the entire youth gave thanks to Lord Jesus Christ.
